Pre-School
February 2012 Highlights in Preschool
The new year is well underway, and we would like to let you know what we have been doing, and what we are planning in the preschool program for the month of February.
Language Arts
We are continuing our work with the consonants of the alphabet, and this month we will be learning about the letters Hh and Jj. Projects will coincide with these letters, and will bring us to a variety of subject areas, as well as provide reinforcement for our early learners.
Reading
As always, we have been reading many books. Some will be read in conjunction with the letters and themes we are working on, some will be about Valentine’s Day, and others will be ones the children chose from our school library. Our students seem to be enjoying the wide variety of stories, and are very attentive during reading time.
Math
This month we will work with graphing and ask the question, What is your favorite Winter activity? We will graph the results of sledding, skating or making a snowman. We also worked on individual graphs, separating M & Ms by color, placing them on a graph and counting and comparing the results. This is one of many hands-on ways to introduce pre-math concepts to our students.
Physical Education
One of the favorite activities for the children is phys ed. Mrs. Cronin is continuing with her program, introducing the children to forward rolls, headstands, handstands and use of the vaulting box. Our littlest students are proving to be physically agile, even at their young ages!
Music
We continue to listen to and sing a variety of songs, and the children seem to really enjoy expressing themselves through music and movement.
Religion
We continue to work through our religion series, concentrating on the lessons God’s Gift of the Earth, Birds, Fish and Animals. These topics are a wonderful way for us to discuss God’s love in a way the children can easily relate to.
January was a very busy month and we closed it out with Catholic Schools Week and registration for new families. Our preschool class is filling for September, but if you are interested, please call the school and arrange for a visit. We would love to have you see firsthand what a fun and challenging place Blessed Sacrament Preschool is!!
During February, we will continue to reinforce fine motor, pre-math and reading readiness skills through our activities and projects.
Reminder:
Child Outreach is scheduled to screen our current Blessed Sacrament preschoolers on 2/1 and 2/2 in the areas of vision, hearing, speech and development. Permission forms were sent home with the children.
February vacation is February 20th – 24th
