4th Grade

We can’t believe that February is already upon us.  Time flies when
you’re having fun!  This is what we’re up to now:

Math – Fractions, fractions, fractions!

Language Arts – We are writing 5 paragraph essays every week, and they
all are quite good.  Additionally, we are addressing complex clauses,
dependent vs. independent clauses, declarative, imperative,
interogative, and exclamatory sentences.

Religion – We are currently exploring the second and third commandements.

Social Studies – We are focusing on our country’s Constitution,
Ammendents, Federalist Papers, and the three branches of government.

Science – Biology – Specifically, food chains, food webs, and ecosystems.

Reading – We are just loving our brand new reading series.  It has
been keeping us very busy.

Spelling – We receive 20 spelling words each week that we must
alphabetize, define, and put into complete sentences. Our weekly test
is Friday.

We’ll check back in next month!

Mrs. Frederick’s Essay Recipe

Write your introduction.

The introduction should be designed to attract the reader’s attention and give them an idea of the essay’s focus. Begin with the prompt that I will always provide you which will be the attention grabber.  Then, you must come up with three ideas that you will proceed to write the body about.

Each of the three paragraphs in the body of the essay must reflect the three examples provided by you in the introduction.  Each paragraph must have at least four sentences and be explained, described, and argued.

Write your conclusion.

The conclusion brings closure to the reader, summing up your points or providing final perspective to your topic. All the conclusion needs are four strong sentences.  You may include your feelings about the topic or even include an anecdote which is a short tale narrating an interesting or amusing biographical incident.

Good Luck!
